This research is intended as a tribute to stud dogs of all breeds. But above all to Frenchie studs, who have so often been used merely as vehicles for certain traits with little regard to ethics. Some have travelled from show to show, and from kennel to kennel, sometimes pumped up with hormones, with no clear owner with whom they can bond. When they no longer served their purpose they are often sold to a poorer country or left, if they are lucky to a welfare charity.
Line A, principal branch: I have called line A that which begins with Ch PomPom, approximately in 1920 beginning in Austria. I have been unable to find any information previous to this date as this would mean investigating in the Austrian archives, which I have been unable to do up to the present. Pom Pom was the father of Rollo de Cherbourg and the great grandfather of Aventurier. Aventurier was imported from Vienna to England, born 13.11.1924 and died 20.08.1936. His breeder was Herr Egon Katz. He was a pied with black markings on the ears and was much prized during the 7 years he was shown. His father was Pauly de Frideli (Rollo´s son). His mother Denise was white and little is known of her other than the names of her parents, Pierre and Judith Antoinette. But we are speaking of a time in which dogs were often not registered, only those which belonged to the better off, working people didn’t have time or money for such refinements in those days. Bonham’s Close Aventurier went to Mrs Jean Cochrane and he had the distinction of being the father of one half of the great pair of the time: Ch Bonhams Close Toby. Born in October 1927 in the home of Mrs. Cochrane. His mother was Ch Bonham’s Close Thisbe, a brindle bitch with 14 C.C.’s being the other half of the prize winning team. Toby won 12 C.C.’s and won his title in Crufts in the 30’s. He was an outstanding stud dog. Toby´s daughter, Ch Rangeworthy Pie, was the first pied champion to be bred in England. Rangery Boulou born 06.11.1931. Belonged to Mrs. Babington and was bred by Mrs. Seymour Osborne. His mother was Rangery Boule. He was the link between Toby and Boulet Rouge. Ch Boulet Rouge, brindle born 07.10.1935 in the home of Miss M. Hill, out of Rangeworthy Rummy was owned by Mrs. C. Townsend Green of the famous Barkston kennels. His son Maxime of Millhouse was the proud father of the famous champion Mark of Millhouse, light brindle who brought the American lines with him through his mother Ginger of Silpho, whose grandmother, Ch Gabrielle of Silpho was direct decendant of Berbay’s Le Boy and Roney Erie Perie. These two were two of the five dogs originally imported into the USA between 1913 and 1926. Mark was the father of Mython of Millhouse and his mother was Matrix of Millhouse. Ch. Mornington of Millhouse, “The Beloved”, brindle. His father was Mython of Millhouse a half brother of Ch Mischa of Millhouse. His strain crossed the North Sea to Sweden through his sons Ch. Moussia and Ch. McAllister. Howter Marksman, brindle, born July 1956. Son of Melinda of Millhouse and of Mornington (closed breeding given that Melinda was Mornington’s daughter and Bomlitz Saba). As such he was the product of an accumulation of the American strain imported in 1926. He was rarely shown but even so won BOB and one CC. He had two sons who both had the rare ability to be both good show dogs and good stud dogs. He died young in 1961. Ch Chasewood Chatfield, “Philip”, light brindle, born 09.06.1958, winner of 9 CC’s. Out of Ch. The Moorings Corinette. He was born in the home of Mrs. Gladys Anderson. He was father of Chasewood Cream Freddie, fawn, who in turn was the father of the first fawn bitch Champion, Chasewood Créme Brulée. She was born 26.07.66, and was the product of another inbreeding, the mother being Chasewood Cream Custard, also daughter of “Philip”. Crème Brulée belonged to Mrs Vivien Watkins. Ch Benhooks Cider Cup, fawn, born 16 March 1963. The first fawn dog to win the title of Champion. He belonged to Mrs. Pat Cox. His mother, Benhook’s Charlotte, brindle, his father Chasewood Cream Freddie. Cider Cup won BOB three years running at Crufts. He won 9 CC’s and 3 BIS before his third birthday. He was an outstanding stud. French Bulldog of the Year in 1965. In 1971 he won Res. Best Dog under Warner Hill in the club show. His son Benhook’s Oliver Twist, brindle, Best Dog at Crufts, 1974 or 75. Ch Garngour Oss, brindle, born 20 Oct 1972. His mother was Garngour Derry Princess, fawn. Winner of 11 CC.’s. Another outstanding stud, amongh his more important offspring being Kilbarchan’s Daring Duggie of Wellstood, born 3.10.75, who died young in 1980. He went to Tommyville where he was an outstanding stud for the breed. Seven of his offspring gained champion tickets in nine months, possibly a record for any breed. Ch Garngour Hurricane, fawn, born 20.04.1975 by Oss out of Garngour Howling Gael, who went to Bomlitz. He was the father of Besing Clarion of Bomlitz. Challenger of Bomlitz, brindle, born in the home of Mrs. Vivien Watkins. Son of Besing Clarion and Bomlitz Damask Rose, who in turn was daughter of Ch Bomlitz Jubilee Rose. Challenger was the father of Brenette Mister Massey. Ch Fitou Flapjack, “Herbie”, brindle. Son of Brenette Mister Massey, his mother being Windsmoor Kisses For Me at Fitou. Bred by Keith Lichtenstein. Owned by Bomlitz, he won BIS at the club show in November 1995. Ch Renebeck Renown of Bomlitz,”Reggie”, brindle. Son of Fitou Flapjack. His mother was Iverfrenchie Pearl Blanche. Born in the home of Irene Tribbeck, owned by Vivien Watkins. Ch Shanvic Sunbeam Bear, “Monty”. Born 03.12.1999 in the home of Sheila and Andy Howard. Reggie´s son, his mother Nokomis Minie Wa Wa to Shanvic. He has to his credit 10 CAC’s, 8 CACIB, 9 BOB´s, one reserve BIS and many group wins. His greatest moment was winning Res. CC. at the FBCofE Centenary show. Judge Vivien Watkins said he was among the best dogs bred in England in the last 10 years. However he leaves no descendants. Loved by Chris and Pilar Hannan. He lives in Spain. His litter brother Ch Shanvic Noir Bear Bomlitz, “Jappie”, brindle, is the father of Islefrida Flaubert Bomlitz, "Zaky", brindle, born 04.07.2002, the mother being Renebeck Snowstorm at Islefrida. Owned by Mrs. Vivien Watkins. And, last but not least, Riccibet Brightime Bomlitz, "Taky", brindle, born 14.12.2004 from a cross between Flaubert and Hetana Highland Dancer. He also lives at Bomlitz.
