French Bulldog
"Girls"
A tribute
People normally speak of the offspring of this or that stud dog, however if the mother is mentioned at all it is usually of lesser importance. There are many old books which don't even mention the mothers, only the stud dog and his value in passing on his qualities to his progeny. But it's a fact that a litter is the product of two dogs, stud and bitch. In the case of the French Bulldog often it's the product of even more: the vet, the anaesthetist, two or more assistants and the poor suffering owner, normally a woman. We can say with little fear of contradiction that the bitch always has the worst part, the longest, the hardest work, the most painful and often most frustrating. Who hasn't seen at some time a mother looking for her pups with no hope of finding them? Not so much today perhaps but in the past, when there were not such sophisticated methods for saving litters and/or the mother, many puppies simply died. This illustrated article is a tribute to all those bitches, of whatever breed, who have beeen mothers at some time, champions or not. Also to those who will be mothers in the future. Especially for those bitches whose morphology makes it more difficult, the whims of humans mean that the laws of nature, if not broken, are bent. And above all, it's a tribute to Frenchie "girls".
