Napoleon and top hat
Napoleon was imported from France in about 1903 by Mr AJ Sewell the Hon. Veterinary Surgeon of the French Bulldog Club of England and subsequently became the property of Mrs. Cousens, the secretary of the club.
Born in August, 1901, by Tali out of Flora, both of whom are recorded as being under 20 lbs in weight, Napoleon weighed 13 lbs and half and had already sired several litters before he came to England.
The French Bulldog Club of England held its first Club show on 7 April 1903. The second was held on 20 April in the following year and was judged by Theo Becker. There were 94 entries and Napoleon was Best Dog. In 1905, 0n 15 June, the Club held its firts Championship show and awarded the dog Challenger Certificate to Napoleon. This tiny dog is always described as a Champion but I have been quite unable to trace where he won his other two Certificates
